ONLINE giant Yahoo has unveiled a suite a new features aimed at making search easier on mobile devices, including the better integration of voice and predictive text.

The improvements, part of the Yahoo oneSearch 2.0 launch, aim make Yahoo the starting point in the mobile search market.

Yahoo executive vice-president for Connected Life Marco Boerries said the 2007 launch of oneSearch had revolutionised the way search was defined in mobile devices, with a focus on answers rather than simply web links.

“In just over a year, we signed 29 partnerships with carriers across the globe, covering more than 600 million consumers under contract, Mr Boerries said.

“With Yahoo oneSearch 2.0, we are fundamentally changing the way consumers use the internet on their mobile phones.”

The feature includes a way to personalise the consumers’ voice, so that Voice-enabled Yahoo oneSearch adapts to your voice the more you use it.

Yahoo took a major step forward in improving oneSearch by previewing plans to open up mobile search results to publishers and developers across the internet.

By enabling publishers to integrate relevant content into the oneSearch results, Yahoo said it was more likely that consumers will be able to find exactly what they're looking for.

“This is really a sea change. This is not about simple Web links any more,” Mr Boerries said.
